2026 PDX Adult Soapbox Derby
Portland craft brewery teams up with Mt. Tabor’s legendary gravity race for its 27th year and kicking things off with a beer launch party on August 1.
Migration Brewing, the award-winning Portland craft brewery known for beers like Straight Outta Portland IPA, Govy 500, and Proper Pilsner, has been named the official beer sponsor of the PDX Adult Soapbox Derby (PASD), Portland’s homegrown, gravity-powered spectacle now in its 27th year.
The partnership pairs two proudly local institutions: a brewery built around the idea of crafting beer “for the journey,” and a 100% volunteer-run race that has been sending homemade cars hurtling down Mt. Tabor since 1997. This year’s derby is set for Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and typically draws thousands of spectators to watch dozens of race teams compete for glory (and survival) on the hill.
A Fitting Match
The PDX Adult Soapbox Derby has grown from a scrappy six-racer stunt dreamed up over pints at the Horse Brass Pub into one of Portland’s most beloved free summer events, drawing an estimated 7,000–10,000 spectators and roughly 42 race teams each year. It remains entirely community-powered, relying on sponsors and volunteers to keep the event free and running.
Migration Brewing, which pours across its Glisan, Williams, Gresham, PacWest Patio, and 1847 Tap House locations, brings that same do-it-yourself, community-first spirit to the partnership, along with the beer to match the occasion.
“Derby day is chaos, creativity, and community all rolling downhill at once — it’s exactly the kind of only-in-Portland event we love to be a part of,” Colin Rath, Co-Founder of Migration Brewing. “We’re proud to help keep this race free and thriving for fans, volunteers, and every team brave enough to build a car and send it down Mt. Tabor.”
Save the Date: Beer Launch Party August 1
Ahead of race day, Migration Brewing will celebrate the partnership with a beer launch party on Saturday, August 1, introducing the beer that will be pouring at this year’s derby. The event will be hosted at the Glisan pub and begins at 7pm.
